- The F and J keys on the keyboard have small little horizontal lines under the letters.
- These lines are there to help the users locate the correct keys without having to look at the keyboard.
- These lines (or ridges) are meant for the users to place their hands in the optimal typing position.
- In the optimal typing position, the index fingers should come on “ridged keys” – the left on “F” and the right on “J”.
- The remaining fingers of the left-hand cover “A” (little finger), “S” (ring finger), “D” (middle finger).
- While the remaining fingers of the right-hand cover “K” (middle finger), “L” (ring finger), and semi-colon/colon (little finger).
- Both thumbs rest on the space bar.
- Other adaptations have also been tried in the past to increase the accuracy and speed, e.g. raising the edges of the “A”, “F”, “J” and semi-colon/colon keys.
