- The heart contracts and expands to pump out blood to the body parts.
- This pumping of blood creates a wave of blood that continues along the arteriesArteries are blood vessels responsible for carrying oxygen-rich blood away from the heart to the body parts. And veins are blood vessels that carry blood low in oxygen from the body back to the heart for reoxygenation..
- What we know as the pulse is basically the crests of the blood wave.
- All arteries have a pulse, but it is most easily felt at points where the skin is thin, and the arteries (and, therefore, blood) are closer to the skin.
- Now, blood is always several degrees warmer than the body.
- And wherever it is closer to the skin, the skin at those points (pulse points) is warmer than the other parts.
- And heat intensifies fragrance because it speeds up evaporation (release of molecules in the air).
- So, the main reason for wearing perfume on the pulse points is to increase its “throw”.
- But the common belief that it adds to the longevity of the scent is said to be a myth.
- Experts suggest that the most significant factor contributing to the perfume’s longevity is the body’s moisture level.
- Keeping our body hydrated (drinking lots of water) and using fragrance-free moisture-rich lotions are the easiest ways to maximise the lifespan of the scent on you.
