- And your friend hates Donald Trump and consumes content which is anti-Trump.
- Now, when you and your friend type ‘America’ or ‘Donald Trump’ in Google, both of you are highly likely to receive very different search results.
- There is no Standard Internet.
- Internet and companies such as Google & Facebook show us stuff that they think we want to see but not necessarily what we need to see.
- Most of this is governed by algorithms and because algorithms are not human, they care highly about relevance and protect us from opposing points of view as we may tune out of such content and badly affect the advertising revenue of internet companies.
- Filter Bubble is when Internet sends you personally-tailored messages based on your web behaviour, location, search history and so many other factors, which are personal to you.
- This is being increasingly seen as harmful to democracy; one of the most famous examples is the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica Scandal.
