  1. Hurricanes, cyclones and typhoons are the same things.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. They are tropical storms.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. This means they all occur roughly within the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. But they are called by different names at different places.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. They are called hurricanes when they form over the North Atlantic, central North Pacific, and eastern North Pacific.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. When they develop over the South Pacific and the Indian Ocean, they are called cyclones.<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. And when they develop in the Northwest Pacific, they are called typhoons.<\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Once a spiralling tropical storm reaches maximum sustained winds of 74 miles (119 kms) per hour or higher, it is then classified as a hurricane, typhoon, or cyclone.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
