- Dell is a multinational computer technology company that Michael Dell founded in 1984.
- The first logo of Dell, introduced in 1984, was a simple DELL with a line under and above the name Dell.
- This easy-to-read logo lasted for a short while, and in the same year, the founder engaged the branding agency Siegel+Gale for a new logo.
- Siegel+Gale designed the logo with the E slanting towards the D.
- It was done to symbolise Michael Dell’s goal to “turn the world on its Ear.”
- The 1980s were still the early days for computers, which were not yet accessible to the masses.
- It was Michael Dell’s vision that the computer would soon become a commodity accessible to everyone.
- And that the success of a computer company would primarily be decided by price and delivery.
- By offering the best prices and prompt delivery (achieved by cutting out the middleman and replacing the age-old wholesalers-retailers distribution model), Dell was truly turning the world on its ear at the time.
- In 2010, a ring was added around DELL (slanted E) to represent the brand’s global presence.
