Since 1968, the British luxury handbag brand, Launer has been supplying The Queen with the handbags that she is seen carrying.
The CEO of Launer told in an interview in 2018 that the reason why The Queen always carries a handbag is that she doesn’t feel fully dressed without it.
But according to the royal experts, The Queen uses her handbag to signal secret messages to her staff.
For example, usually, The Queen would have the handbag hanging from her left arm, but when she moves the handbag from the left to the right arm, it is a signal to her staff that she is ready to wrap up the conversation or the social event.
Similarly, if she’s at dinner and places the handbag on the table, that indicates that she wants to end the event in the next five minutes.
The staff is trained to execute the required actions in a regal way without offending anyone.
For example, upon The Queen’s signal, someone from the staff would come and say, “Sir ______ would very much like to see you,” and The Queen would excuse herself.
What she carries inside her bag is another question that has intrigued many over the years and different sources suggest different things.
Some of the said items are reading glasses, a small mirror, lipstick, family photographs, a crossword puzzle, a fountain pen, a diary, a handkerchief, and a small camera.
