Narallis at Summer Sound-off - May 18th
Wednesday May 18th I was with 2DPoint.net  to check out the Triad Culture Summer Sound-off, a six band show, at Ziggy’s tavern.

I had a blast. I now present to you my review ofNARALLIS, a four man band from Rocky Mt. NC.
You know what else is in Rocky Mt?.........Nothing!

I had never heard of these guys before. Now I’ll tell all my friends to check them out. I thought they were
freaking great! I had a lot of fun during their seven song set. They opened well, loud & proud with the first song. It was an eruption of energy and pure fun mixed with an all out attitude. They came, they saw, they rocked! It got me jumping & bobbin’ my head. This band didn’t slow down until the third or fourth song & even then all the passion was still there. That was one thing they never lacked.
They were fun to watch. They werefun to listen to. It was well worth the drive for them to come here.
I think that if they stay with it they will get more gigs here & other places as well. Good luck dudes.
One song, Time will tell, was my fave. It just rocked. I liked it so much in fact that I bought the cd and burned it to my hard drive so I can listen to it when I play party poker. I’m a nerd.
The song structure was good. Vocals matched the material, good material too. They had a great stage presence.
Grooved together well, they were tight, I mean tight. I could not see any visible screw ups on stage. They looked like they were having fun and they got the crowd to have some fun too. They DID get a good response.
What more could you ask from a band that drove at least 2 ½ hours just to play a gig? Of which they probably got a small take. And they showed gratitude and thanks for the people.
Now for the Gripes: The only thing that I didn’t like was that they were just a bit popish to me, just a bit.
I mean the sound was great and the P.A. mix was good, ( the sound man just could not get it together for the first two bands). However, the popish sound just ain’t my bag man.

Having said all that I would say if you like that scene then check out NARALLIS.
And wear sneakers cuz you will move.

PEACE & CHICKEN GREASE. KEEP ROCKING THE LOCAL SCENE BROTHA’S

...wear sneakers cuz you will move.

These guys sucked me in with their energy and stage presence. They had a confidence that few bands exhibit. Later I discovered that their confidence was more arrogance and their stage presence seemed to be hype. They were pimping a kind of high energy in-your-face music that doesn't exist on either of their CDs. (on which, by the way, they come off as a group of over-produced, phlanged vocal track, whimpy John Mayer wannabees. EVERY song crescendos [fades in] the same as if the engineer only has one formula for mixing. Personally, I wouldn't let him mix my gin & tonic - and THAT"S pretty hard to screw up!)Originally I thought both CD's for $12 was a deal. Now I'm just happy I have 2 of them - one to crap on and one to cover it up with. In short, your CD and live show should sound just a little alike.
I watched these guys dis no less than three fans who only approached them to say "good job" - to which their lead singer sneared and turned the other way. Dude, these guys are your paycheck! Also, Narallis bailed shortly after their set and returned only in time to hear who won the competition. Their "thanks to all the bands who participated" was hollow considering they didn't even have the decency to stick around and hear them. Bad form guys. This is only one show - don't get cocky.
In my opinion, Narallis had the hype and backing (buddies in the press) to predispose them to win before the competition started.
The Arrival hadbetter presence, better material, a better image and definitely a better attitude.
They were robbed.
